"Long Term Care" is undoubtedly one of the most common topics facing "Baby Boomers" today.  Whether it is for a mother, father, aunt, uncle or other special person in life, the trends, options and decisions about caring for our older adults are quickly taking on an entire new dimension in Retirement Planning. One out of every two adults today will find themselves in a position to make choices or decisions they never contemplated making before on behalf of someone close to them needing care on a on-going basis.

Texas Senior Solutions is an organization assisting adults make the paradigm shift from reactive planning to proactive planning for contingencies that may arise in their family's future.  Geriatric Care Managers are experienced and knowledgeable professionals who consult with their clients and develop plans and assist in the implementation of such plans, should they be faced with making a decision related to long term care now or in the future.

Deciding to place a loved one in a nursing home used to be one of the only options available to seniors if they require regular and routine care with activities of daily living.  However, today there are other options to consider.  The physical, medical, emotional and/or mental needs of the individual should be assessed prior to placing someone in a facility.

Finally, the cost associated with this care, is a very important factor in the equation. All parties involved must consider a plan that will fund the necessary services or care needed as aging occurs.  Most people are uncertain about the roles Medicare and/or Medicaid play in long term care.  Additionally, Long Term Care Insurance and Social Security, or the lack thereof, adds to the complexity of how the costs for long term care will be paid.  Someone will have to be financially responsible for the care provided.  Everyone needs to understand that failing to plan could result in the unnecessary depletion of retirement savings and assets accumulated by seniors who have worked their entire lives to secure their future.
